Smithdale is a flag station and post office on the Dwight and Peoria branch of the Chicago & Alton Railroad, in Newtown Township, twenty miles northwest of Pontiac and four miles southeast of Streator, the nearest bank location. Z. R. Jones is postmaster and buys grain here. The annual shipments of grain are over 100,000 bushels.
